Why homeowners choose Shift
You get a dedicated Shift team backed by a Canada-wide company with over 10 years of experience and thousands of installations complete.
Use solar power at home and export surplus through your utility’s program. FortisBC net metering and BC Hydro self-generation have different rules — we model the right one for your address.
We stand behind every panel we install with a written performance guarantee, plus monitoring tools so you can track your own production.
Add a home battery to keep the lights on when the grid goes down — a practical option for Okanagan households planning for outages.
Long summer days support solar production; shorter winter days and snow reduce output. We assess roof pitch, shading and seasonal conditions for your Kelowna property.
No sub-contractors. Our certified installers handle the full job — design, permits, install and inspection.
Shift is a BC Hydro Alliance member, NABCEP certified, and a member of the BC Sustainable Energy Association.

How it works
Share a few details. We analyze your roof, your electricity usage and your goals — usually within 1–2 business days.
You get a transparent proposal with system size, payback, financing options and every rebate you qualify for.
Our in-house Shift crew handles permits, engineering and installation — typically in 1–2 days on-site.
Once your utility approves the connection, we set up your monitoring app so you can track production, and back your system with our 25-year guarantee.
BC rebates & incentives
Your Kelowna-area address determines your utility and eligibility. FortisBC customers and BC Hydro customers have different export programs; BC Hydro rebates do not automatically apply to FortisBC accounts.
Flexible financing
Many Shift customers finance their solar system for a monthly payment based on their home and credit eligibility — turning a variable utility expense into a fixed asset that pays itself off.
Shift project portfolio
A selection of Shift installations from Vancouver Island. These are existing company projects, not Kelowna installations; your Okanagan proposal is designed for your own roof.

Common questions
Yes. Kelowna’s long summer days create a strong seasonal opportunity for rooftop solar. Output falls during shorter winter days, and snow, shading and roof orientation matter. We model annual production for your property rather than promise year-round summer output.
Many Kelowna homes receive electricity from FortisBC; other Okanagan addresses are served by BC Hydro. FortisBC offers net metering for eligible systems up to 50 kW. BC Hydro’s new self-generation rate, effective July 1, 2026, pays 10¢/kWh for surplus exports. We check your bill before calculating savings or rebates.
Yes. This assessment is for Kelowna and nearby Okanagan communities, including West Kelowna, Lake Country and Peachland. In Kelowna, we assess properties in neighbourhoods such as Glenmore, Rutland, the Lower Mission, Upper Mission and Black Mountain.
East- and west-facing roofs can also be suitable. Hillside terrain, neighbouring buildings and mature trees can affect Okanagan homes differently. Your assessment considers roof pitch, orientation, available area and shading before recommending a system.
Panels can generate in cold weather, but snow coverage and shorter daylight reduce production. Your system design includes seasonal estimates. Solar panels alone do not power a home during a grid outage; backup requires appropriately designed storage and controls.
Requirements depend on your municipality, roof structure and electrical design. We check City of Kelowna or the relevant local authority’s requirements, electrical permits and your utility’s interconnection approval. Solar hot water ready provisions on a new home are not the same as approval for rooftop solar PV.
Cost depends on system size, roof access, electrical upgrades and optional battery storage. Your free assessment provides an itemised proposal with production, pricing and payback based on your electricity bill — not a generic Island estimate.
BC Hydro rebates are for eligible BC Hydro customers, not automatically for FortisBC customers. Program terms and funding can change. We confirm your utility and current eligibility before including an incentive in your proposal.
No. A grid-connected solar system can operate without a battery when the grid is available. If outage backup is a priority, we can assess a battery and the circuits you want supported.
Financing is subject to lender approval, interest rates and available equity. Payback depends on installation cost, your utility’s rates, how much solar you use at home and export compensation. Your proposal shows the assumptions and applicable incentives clearly.
